International School of Düsseldorf

CLIENT
The International School of Düsseldorf e.V. operates a modern school campus on Niederrheinstraße in the Kaiserswerth district of Düsseldorf. There are several buildings for the elementary and senior school as well as two sports halls. With around 1,300 pupils from over 57 nations and around 200 teachers and staff, the school has an international focus and is constantly growing. The focus is on cooperative, interdisciplinary learning and a holistic, future-oriented education. As an IB World School, ISD also pursues clear sustainability goals, including the expansion of renewable energies on campus.

TASK POSITION
We are renovating existing science classrooms and transforming them into a modern learning environment. The aim is to create a contemporary learning environment that meets today’s educational requirements through a new room concept as well as technical and design measures.

PLANNING PROCESS
We take on the general planning together with our sub-planners. We develop the structural and technical solutions in close coordination with the user requirements. The focus is on functionality, spatial quality and sustainable implementation.

REALIZATION PROCESS
We dismantle existing ceilings, walls, floors and pipes and carry out concrete cutting work and core drilling. We adapt the existing mullion and transom façade to create new entrances. We then redesigned the learning environment: with drywall work, the installation of new interior doors, painting and flooring work as well as the delivery and installation of modern school furniture.
At the same time, we are renewing the drinking water and heating supply, installing a new ventilation unit, setting up a new sub-distribution board and modernizing the entire electrical installation.
Due to the tight time frame, we rely on structured scheduling with LEAN timing in construction management. In this way, we ensure that all work is completed within the summer vacations.

CHALLENGE
The particular challenge lies in the timely implementation: all work must be completed during the school-free summer period. The project is technically manageable – the decisive factor is the exact timing of all trades and close coordination in the construction process.
